The first time we heard these songs they were in their infancy, just some very rough mixes which were passed on by a mutual friend (thanks Beau!) in one of those ’stop what you’re doing, you need to hear this right this very second’ moments you used to have with your local record store guy. It didn’t take long to get it. The familiar eyes widening, pulse quickening, hyper aware shot to the heart you get when you hear well written music executed with a precise balance of deft skill and unbridled passion.

So, fast forward a few months and here we are. The first single from the forthcoming debut album by Saint Jude, fittingly titled All Ways Were Lost b/w Rain Is Falling Down. Available as a free download here. Dig it.

Damon Smith has been busy of late, due in part to the fact he seemingly works every damn minute of the day, and that The Quality Lightweights new record has been garnering plenty of attention since the blindingly good launch party at the Northcote Social Club.

The album’s streamable, downloadable, and hand-deliverable to your door via here.

New and extremely fine Bowers album Odds Or Evens now available from the store… but more on that soon. Here’s the party!

Odds Or Evens Launch

A few weeks ago our dear friends The Bowers released a cracking new 7″ , featuring the first single from their forthcoming sophomore LP. The single is called Lay The Marigolds, and if you haven’t heard it yet, we strongly recommend checking it out over at Cobra Snake Necktie.

The launch was at the excellent Dear Patti Smith project space and we snapped a few pics.

With dear thanks to the lads at Cobra Snake Necktie Records, the acclaimed Her Night is now available as a limited edition (1/500), hand numbered 180gm Bowerbird blue deluxe vinyl package!

Each package comes with the album on CD for your digital-conversion ease, as well as some bonus download-only material. Best get in quick, as there’s already less than 200 of these left… Available from the store.

Yep, we having a party, and it’s about time, too. Let’s face it, it’s been a big year. Some golden opportunities, many new friends, plenty of amazing records… some we’ve had the pleasure of releasing ourselves, others we’ve just plain enjoyed. This Friday September 24 at Yah Yah’s will be a blast. Come join.

We’ve been working with, and admiring (he’s a dreamboat, after all), the charming, erudite Damon Smith for some time. Damon has written and recorded an impressive number of songs since we met him back in 2008, quite possibly more than he knows what to do with. This has been such a creatively focussed and prolific two years for the songwriter that he has gone without a release for quite some time, since the aforementioned years’ This Thing in My Chest single received extensive radio play and a sell-out first run pressing.

Damon has finally emerged from the studio with his debut full-length record in tow, but whilst that receives the finishing touches, we’re delighted to release this series of vignettes, The Free Pre LP EP. This collection of songs was written in the same period as the LP, and makes for the perfect companion to the forthcoming record.

Also, as the title suggests, it’s free! Grab it now from his Bandcamp page.

A little while ago The Bowers guested on the most esteemed MGV-31 and belted out not one but TWO teasers from their forthcoming yet-to-be-titled album. Time Is Mine is a ripper of a track, anthemic in a TV Party-esque fashion, and backed with the darker but equally party Lay The Marigolds , makes this a great watch. Check it out.

…and the party!

We at L&T are very excited to announce that the new single from The Bowers, Caught Your Smile, will be released on 7″ vinyl done in conjunction with our dear friends, the extremely affable and attractive people at Cobra Snake Necktie Records.

Caught Your Smile first came to our attention as one of many standouts on the Jacky Winter album, Ornithology. Back then it was a slow-burning rumination on love and sex, and it’s great to see the song re-recorded by The Bowers as a shimmering, kinetic pop triumph that only seems to improve the more you listen to it.

The 7″ boasts two B-sides, the relentless stomper Sliding, and a cover of the Small Faces classic It’s Too Late, and is limited to 300 copies. Get down to Yah Yah’s on Friday August 6 for the launch of this sparkling single.

Also, do pick up a copy of the most excellent Ornithology from the Torn & Frayed store here, your other half will appreciate it immensely.
