The Revels’ debut EP, ‘World on Time’, is a volatile cocktail of psych-blues and garage pop. This affable 7-track contains irresistable shakedowns like ‘Gimme Sound’ and ‘Way Gone’ which burst with garage-fire, while gems like the lead single ‘Another Sinking Stone’ take hold with melodic jaunt and swagger. A testimony of jangling guitars, drum-bass growl and harmonic intrigue, the ‘World on Time’ EP’s surge and flow invokes the kind of riotous mirth and merry making that is the bands’ namesake. Originally forming in 2005, The Revels’ unique brand of rollick ‘n’ roll gained them first prize in both the renowned Pushover competition and Futurerock competition within months of each other. A succession of shows across Melbourne followed with invitations to play at festivals such as Pyramid Rock and Apollo Bay Festival alongside acts like Silverchair, The Living End, Grinspoon and Evermore. Throughout 2009 members Tom O’Loughlin, Ben Mackie, Tom McGrath (of Triple J’s unearthed winners The Polites) and Jesse Wray-McCann continued to impress punters and industry alike with their energetic live act while working steadily at creating a debut record that captures the raw candour of their popular shows. Due for release on Friday, March 26, The Revels’ ‘World on Time’ EP is a long awaited treat for fans and newcomers alike. Available from the Love & Theft store here, as well as iTunes and select independent record stores Australia-wide, this audacious cannon serves as a great reminder of Melbourne’s true, rhythm drenched heart and soul. |
